DIY: Tassels
September 09, 2016
An item that has been very popular for quite some time now is the leather tassel. I've seen these tassels everywhere ever since designers started making them. The thing is that to get one of these from a designer label is pretty expensive! Even getting just one tassel from most places isn't that reasonable. So, I decided to make some of them for myself! First, here is what you'll need...
Leather
Ruler(s)
Adhesive (Super Glue, Sobo, Zap-a-Gap, or any equivalent)
Utility knife
Scissors
Pliers (to hold down pieces while the glue dries)
Chalk pencil
Keyring key chain
STEP 1: Measure out the leather (8x4in).
STEP 2: Cut out the leather according to the guide (image in STEP 1).
STEP 3: Cut a separate 4-1/2 in strip of leather.
STEP 4: Fold the strip and glue where it comes together, leaving about 1/2 in loop for the keychain. Let it dry.
STEP 5: Glue the folded strip to the edge of the tassel (as pictured). Let it dry.
STEP 6: Roll up the tassel.
STEP 7: Glue the end of the roll to the rest of the tassel so it stays rolled. Let it dry.
STEP 8: Add tassel to keyring.
There you have it! Handmade tassels for your handbags and accessories. It really doesn't take too long to make and you can customize them to your liking. I hope you enjoyed and make some tassels of your own!
