When it comes to traveling, you try to pack all the clothing you want and probably WAY more than you need. For me, I try to pack as efficiently as possible while thinking of style and comfort. Recently, I went on a road trip to New York and packed with this in mind.
Last week, my parents and I began our adventure to New York. Rather than flying like we did the previous year, we got a rental car and made our way up. It was really nice because unlike the last trip, we were able to visit the city and the less crowded areas. We stayed at a few different hotels, one of the main hotels being a new Courtyard by Marriott in Edgewater, NJ.
The hotel was about a three minute walk to the Hudson River, where you can see the New York skyline. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly, the interior was modern and well designed (I was WAY impressed for a Courtyard hotel), and it was pretty quiet. Throughout the trip, we mainly went to New York City, Yonkers, and the Niagara Falls.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Ever since I heard of the "Manus x Machina" exhibition, I've been wanting to see it in person. The outfits in this exhibition were incredible! Although I loved a lot of the outfits, I was not a big of a fan of how they were exhibited in comparison to the "China: Through the Looking Glass" (the exhibition from last year).
I felt like there could have been more of a wow factor, especially since the lighting and setting of the previous exhibition was SO amazing. Anyways, I still loved the designs by Chanel, Dior, Maison Margiela, and much more.
There were a lot of interesting pieces using new technology like 3D printing. These garments really appealed me especially since interior design/architecture is very 3-dimensional. Overall, the pieces were very eloquent and outstanding.
Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
My sister and I were walking down the street and came across this museum. Neither of us knew much about it, so we decided to check it out and we weren't disappointed! It was SO AMAZING! They had an exhibition that was going to close two days later, so we were beyond fortunate to see it!
They give you a special stylus pen which you can use to save the artwork to a personal collection online. ALSO, you can draw on these interactive tables!! The exhibitions were also very interesting and there was a great variety of work.
The Niagara Falls
One day, we took a six hour drive to go to the Niagara Falls. Here's the thing...my family and I all forgot to bring our passports so we couldn't go to Canada to see that side of the Niagara Falls. HOWEVER, the view is still amazing from the US side. By the waterfall, there is a park that you can walk around.
For a small fee, you can go on this lever that allows you to see a great view of the falls and the bridge that connects Canada to the US. If you pay more, you can go on a ferry that literally goes right by the Niagara Falls which I HIGHLY recommend. Overall, it is beautiful and worth going to see.
The trip was incredible and I got to go to a ton of new places as well as revisit some favorites from the last trip. Stay tuned for posts on food and travel outfits!
As I got hungry the other day, I searched through the kitchen for something to eat. I was in the mood for stir-fry, but I couldn't find any rice. I wasn't in the mood for just an egg either. As I looked around for something, I decided to do a little bit of experimental cooking. I never experiment when cooking, but I decided to give it a try. Through this, I created the Loaded Grilled Potato. I will tell you what I did...
Ingredients
- 1 Red-Skinned Potato
- 1 Egg
- 1 Whole Mushroom
- 1 Stock of Broccoli
- 1 Carrot
- 1 Clove of Garlic
Seasoning
- "Slap Ya Mama" Seasoning
- Salt
- Onion Powder
- Pepper
- Red pepper flakes
It was that time of year: Zara's Summer Sale. I could not pass up the opportunity so I scrutinized Zara's site for any great fashion finds and found these babies. I've been looking for some amazing, awesome, funky shoes to add some character to my wardrobe and THIS was everything I could want. They take oxfords to another level (literally, there's a platform). They cost me $49.95. I'm not in love with the price, but it was way less than the original price. Also, it was my gift to myself for finishing my finals so strongly!
These are definitely shoes that you need to break in so I suggest putting on thick socks and walking around your house/apartment before wearing them out.
My friend Trulah is on tour for her debut EP "Home". It came out a little over three months ago and I've been loving it since the release. So much that I thought that I should share it for this Music Monday! The EP consists of five original songs that all convey a positive message. Some of my favorites include "Only You" which is about satisfaction being found in God, and "Wait for Me" which is directed towards the one you're been waiting for. The songs are beautifully written and her vocals are absolutely stunning! You won't be disappointed!!
Support Trulah and listen and purchase her EP on iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play.
This summer has been delightful, almost as delightful as these pastries from the local French bakery! I've always loved this bakery since I was young. Just picture a little ballerina with her pink tights, tank leotard, and a sheer chiffon skirt munching on a rabbit shaped butter cookie...that was me! As I tasted these desserts and experienced the flavors, I start to identify three parallels between the sweetness and my summer: sweet, semi-sweet, and bitter-sweet.
Sweet
Like this scrumptious "tarte aux fraises", this summer has been full of sweet moments. Moments like house sitting with my best friends, going on shopping trips, canoeing and tubbing at the springs, walking on the beach at sunset, and going to the movie theaters. Moments like these, shared with some of the best people I know, are so enjoyable and should not be taken for granted. They only last for so long, but the memory will last for much longer. I can still taste that tart!
Semi-Sweet
These moments may seem like nothing to most people, but to a semi-introverted person like myself, it means everything! This of course is time to myself. I've had time to be alone and unbothered which gives me time to focus on myself and do the things I need to do. These things include sleeping, working on my portfolio, sharpening my skills, spend time with God, writing down ideas, and watching a load of Youtube videos that I neglected during finals week/month (cause we go hard at SCAD). This butter cookie is a dessert, but it isn't as sweet as most cookies. The sweetness is more like a hint, but I love it!
Bitter-Sweet
As sweet as the summer has been, there are the moments that taste less sweet and have a slightly bitter flavor to them. A moment like this can be finding out that your best friend is moving across the country. But, I did say bitter-sweet. Although she's moving across the nation, meaning I won't see her for a very long time, she is going to be a campus missionary. I couldn't be more proud of her for advancing toward her calling and reaching out to those who need it the most. I must say though, it is L.A. which gives me more reason to go there! As for the treat, the "tarte au citron" was sweet, but the lemon and meringue made it taste bitter. There were moments when it overpowered the taste, but in the end it was sweet!
Many more sweets are coming soon and I can't wait to share about them!
