WAYS OF VALENTINE'S DAY

February 13, 2016

It’s Valentines’s Day. A day for loved ones to express their affection through the gifting of things like chocolates and roses. It’s also Single Awareness Day, a day that makes it easy to identify who doesn’t have a significant other. There are many ways one can approach this holiday. So, I’ll divide it into three groups:

“Me + My Other Half”

This is for those who have that boyfriend or girlfriend to celebrate the lover’s holiday with. This is a day where you do your hair and makeup intentionally, wear that outfit that you’ve been planning for days, and go on the perfect date. Enjoy this day! It shouldn’t be the only day you show your love for one another, but that doesn’t mean that you should avoid making it special. You can do something simple like casually hanging out or go on that extravagant night date at that restaurant you’ve been drooling over.

“I Love Myself”

All my fellow single and proud people out there, this is for you! What is this holiday based on? Love. And who should you love? Yourself. When was the last time you had time to yourself to do whatever the heck you’ve been wanting to do? This is the day for you to eat something delicious (NOT binge eating out of “I don’t have a valentine” sadness), go adventuring around town, and snuggle up on your other lover (your bed) and watch your favorite movies/tv shows. This isn’t a day to feel sad for yourself. You should enjoy your independence because that love will come eventually, but for now, it’s me time.

“Galentine's Night Out”

Girls, what’s better than Girls Night Out? Galentine’s Night Out. If you’re familiar with Parks and Recreation (Best. Show. Ever.), Galentine’s Day is a holiday made by Leslie Knope in which you spend time with your girlfriends and enjoy your friendship. It’s like a giant G.N.O. where you join with your best friends and do whatever you want like adventuring in the city, doing white elephant exchanges, and eating really good food. It can be really casual like “Sleepover!” or extravagant like “Who's hot and single? Us.”

These are my three ways of spending Valentine’s Day. I hope you all enjoy it! Also, if you’re interested in what to wear to any of these, check out SCAD Manor’s article on http://www.scadmanor.com/the-5-types-valentine/ .
